Quick action prevents kitchen fire from spreading

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Quick action by a house owner and neighbours prevented a kitchen fire from spreading at a state government quarters here last night.

The incident, which occurred at Lorong 4 behind the Resident’s Office, was reported at 9:31 pm.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said the fire was caused by a leaking gas cylinder hose during cooking activities.

“The blaze was put out using four units of dry powder fire extinguishers before firefighters from the Kota Samarahan station arrived,” it said in a statement.

It added that the estimated damage was around seven per cent, involving kitchen equipment.

Firefighters, who arrived at 9:34 pm, carried out monitoring work to ensure the fire was fully extinguished before the operation ended at 9:50 pm.

No injuries were reported, and all occupants were safe.

The operation also involved the assistance of the police.
