SERIAN: Three people were killed while four others sustained minor injuries after a four-wheel-drive vehicle crashed at Ensebang Quarry, Balai Ringin, along Kilometre 219.5 of Jalan Serian-Sri Aman, Lebuh Raya Pan Borneo, today.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said the single-vehicle accident involved seven people aged between 14 and 75.
Two of the victims, aged 43 and 75, were pronounced dead at the scene, while another, aged 65 succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.
The other four, including two teenagers, sustained minor injuries.
“A fire and rescue team from the Serian station were deployed to the scene, some 39 kilometres away after receiving a distress call on the incident at 11:54 am.
“Upon arrival, all injured individuals and the victims had already been extricated by members of the public.
“Initial treatment was provided and the injured were taken to hospital using the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit,” said Bomba Sarawak.
The department added that the team also carried out flushing works and ensured the situation was safe and under control before concluding the operation.
Apart from the fire personnel, 12 personnel from the Ministry of Health and six police officers were also at the scene.
