BAU: More than 300 participants took part in the second edition of the Mount Singai Eco Run 2025, which featured a six-kilometre run and a 300-metre mountain climbing challenge.
Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the event not only promoted mental and physical health but also fostered stronger community ties.
“The success of the Kampung Senibong Singai Bau Village Residents’ Association in organising this programme has attracted participants from both within and outside the state while highlighting the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Bau,” he said according to a TVS report when officiating at the event held at Perkarangan Rabuh Giang, Mount Singai, here today (Sept 6).
He also reminded locals to protect the environment and preserve Mount Singai’s ecosystem.
“When you arrive at the Singai, Bratak and Jagoi areas, you can witness the beauty of the surrounding villages. I urge residents to maintain cleanliness and avoid cutting down trees indiscriminately, especially at Mount Singai, which has been recognised as a Sarawak Geopark,” he added.
Henry also expressed support for making the programme an annual event to promote healthy tourism here, while encouraging youth to be involved not only as participants but also as part of the organising team.
Henry also congratulated the organiser, Francis Alson Mawin, for the successful hosting of this year’s event.
“Such programmes should be continued to preserve heritage, tourism products and the environment. The younger generation plays a significant role in community development,” he was quoted as saying.
Last year’s inaugural edition attracted over 200 participants, while this year’s event also saw the involvement of Sarawak Energy Berhad through an initiative to plant 100 belian saplings around Mount Singai as part of forest conservation efforts alongside the youth.
