KUCHING: Young shuttlers from across Sarawak showcased their talent at the SBA Junior Badminton Tournament 2025, highlighting strong collaboration between clubs, divisional associations, and the Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) to develop players for higher-level competitions.

SBA’s President, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, said the tournament plays a crucial role in selecting Sarawak’s Under-12 and Under-16 teams for the 100Plus National U12 and U16 Team Championship, scheduled to be held from October 29 to November 2, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur.

“This championship is important to ensure we can identify and field the best players from Sarawak at the national level.

“We opened it up to all divisional associations and clubs so that as many players as possible can take part,” he told reporters after the prize-giving ceremony at SBA Hall today.

He added that SBA is considering a zonal system to widen the selection base.

“With three zones, we can further expand opportunities for young players, shortlist more talents, and eventually select the best for Sarawak.

“It also helps in developing players to a higher level,” he said.

Wan Lizozman thanked the associations and clubs for sending their players, noting that their commitment reflected strong cooperation with SBA in building a stronger badminton culture in the state.

For the record, the three-day tournament, held at SBA Hall from September 5 to 7, drew a total of 335 entries in the Under-12 and Under-16 categories, making it one of the largest junior badminton events in the state.
