Elderly man feared killed ny crocodile in Lawas

LAWAS: An 80-year-old man is feared to have been attacked by a crocodile after he went missing while bathing in a river at Kampung Siang-Siang Laut, Terusan, on Tuesday evening (Sept 9).

The victim, identified as Tuah Lamat, was last seen at around 5.30 pm near a jetty close to his home.

When he did not return, family members went to check the area and found his towel and slippers on the riverbank.

Villagers launched a search using boats along the river but failed to locate him.

According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operation centee, the Fire and Rescue Department in Lawas received a call at 6.48 pm and dispatched a team to the scene, located about 22km away. The four-member team arrived at 7 pm.

The department said no search operation was carried out last night.

Following discussions with police, a full search-and-rescue (SAR) operation will be launched this morning.

The victim was believed to have been attacked by the crocodile while bathing at the jetty.
