KUALA LUMPUR: The country’s top men’s doubles pair and the top seeds in the tournament, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, suffered a shocking exit at the 2025 Hong Kong Open Badminton Championship.

The top seeds suffered a first round defeat at the hands of unheralded English duo, Ben Lane-Sean Vendy on Tuesday.

The top-seeded pair failed to perform at their best, losing 13-21, 13-21 in just 28 minutes in a match held at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

It was Aaron-Wooi Yik’s second consecutive loss to the world number 15 pair, after the 2024 Arctic Open.

Last month, Aaron-Wooi Yik were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the World Championships in Paris.

Another national doubles pair, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, also suffered the same fate, being eliminated from the tournament after losing to the Taiwanese duo, Lee Jhe-Huei-Yang Po-Hsuan 24-22, 20-22, 17-21. – BERNAMA
