KUCHING: Numerous imported food products were seized for failing to comply with labelling requirements during an integrated enforcement operation last week.
The Kuching Divisional Health Office said the operation, codenamed ‘Ops Label’, was held around Jalan Wan Alwi and The Podium on Sept 11.
Further checks found that an undisclosed figure of products failed to provide labelling in Bahasa Malaysia or English, which is a requirement for all imported food items.

Under Regulation 10 of the Food Regulations 1985, it states that food produced, prepared or packaged in Malaysia must carry labels in Bahasa Malaysia, while imported food must be labelled in either Bahasa Malaysia or English.
Translations in other languages may be added, but only after fulfilling this requirement.
The office said the operation aimed to safeguard consumers from potential health risks posed by non-compliance with food labelling and expiry date marking on food products in the market.
A total of 27 officers from Kuching Divisional Health Office’s Food Safety and Quality Unit, Lundu District Health Office, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak, were involved in the integrated operation.
