KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Tower will be illuminated in the colours of blue and gold from today until Friday (Sept 19) as a symbolic gesture celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) in the country.

National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the KRT has for five decades been the bridge uniting the various races and religions in empowering the spirit of neighbourliness, preserving security aspects, and enhancing the local community’s economy.

“KRT is the main artery of the Ministry of National Unity (KPN) in efforts to strengthen unity at the grassroots level,” he said in a statement today.

In the same statement, LSH Service Master Sdn Bhd, the operator of the Kuala Lumpur Tower, described the special lighting not only as a symbol of support but also as a tribute to the significant role of the Rukun Tetangga (Neighbourhood Watch) in uniting the community over the past five decades.

“As an iconic landmark of the country, the Kuala Lumpur Tower always supports initiatives that convey the message of unity and togetherness among the people,” said the company’s chief executive officer Khairil Faizal Othman.

To date, there are 8,586 KRTs nationwide covering eight core focus areas: economy and standard of living, community safety and resilience, leadership, community well-being, lifelong learning, environment, heritage and culture, and creativity.- BERNAMA
