KUCHING: Police have confirmed that a viral social media post alleging that an individual was seriously injured, with a leg severed, in a crocodile attack said to have taken place in Sematan, Lundu, is not true.

Lundu District Police chief, Superintendent Sudirman Kram, said checks revealed that no report had been lodged in relation to the alleged incident.

“To date, there has been no report of a crocodile attack on a human in the Lundu district to police, thereby denying the authenticity of the viral news,” he said in a statement.

He added that spreading false or inaccurate information could cause unnecessary public alarm and confusion.

The public is therefore advised to refrain from circulating unverified claims.
