JOHOR BAHRU: The launch of the state-of-the-art Hinotori Robotic Surgical System at Regency Specialist Hospital here has raised hopes that similar advanced medical technology could one day be introduced across Malaysia, including Sarawak.

HMI Medical group chief executive officer Chin Wei Jia said the regional healthcare group, which has operations in Malaysia and Singapore, is always on the lookout for opportunities to expand.

“Malaysia is a market we are very familiar with, and we believe there is still significant potential for us to deliver quality and accessible private healthcare services,” she told a press conference after the launch on Monday (Sept 22).

Chin stressed that HMI’s focus has always been on value-based, patient-centred care enabled by technology.

“As we grow across different markets, our hospitals will continue to focus on providing comprehensive medical services.

“We look at how we can leverage technology to enhance precision, improve quality, and offer more options in medical and surgical care for our patients and local communities,” she said.

Although she did not specify particular states, Chin noted that HMI remains open to expansion across Malaysia.

“We were proud to launch the first next-generation smart ward technology at Mahkota Medical Centre in Melaka, and it has since been rolled out at Regency Specialist Hospital.

“Our focus is on driving digitalisation, improving patient experiences, and introducing the latest technology so that our patients and communities can truly benefit,” she added.

Also present during the press conference were Johor Health and Environment Committee Chairman Ling Tian Soon and Chief Executive Officer of HMI Malaysia Stanley Lam.
