KUCHING: Sarawak strengthened its grip in athletics at the 2025 Borneo Games Kuching (BGK) after collecting five gold medals in the morning session at Stadium Sarawak, Petra Jaya, here, on Friday.

Adiana Irence Wong delivered the first gold in the women’s 5,000m walk with a time of 31:26.64.

Teammates, Cristabell Deanna Bidin (33:48.09) and Cristal Chung Ke Xin (36:57.94), completed a clean sweep.

In the women’s hammer throw, Grace Wong Xiu Mei led the way with 57.26m, followed by fellow Sarawakians, Yoyo Wong Zhi Yao (40.04m) and Liew Wong Ping (38.45m), for silver and bronze respectively.

The women’s 100m hurdles saw another one-two finish as Syarifah Nur Alisya Syed Zafirna (15.29s) struck gold ahead of Darellyn Denisa Deng Dannis (15.43s).

East Kalimantan’s Dilfa Rizky Fakhira (15.98s) settled for bronze.

Elvin Yap Zhi Xian contributed the fourth gold in the men’s 110m hurdles, clocking 14.52s.

Sabah’s Muhammad Ilham Jaffar (14.67s) and Muhamad Fazrul Nizam Ajah (14.69s) secured the minor medals.

Sarawak wrapped up the morning with gold in the men’s 4x400m relay.

The quartet of Muhammad Qarliff Kuyt Abdullah, Ashven Austin Adrien, Yusry Muhammad Saifullah and Mosmilian Astute Malam crossed the line in 3:19.62.

Another Sarawak team took silver (3:27.89), while Labuan won bronze (3:38.46). – UKAS
