KUCHING: Sarawak’s archers are eyeing the finals with cautious optimism as they prepare to face strong contenders from East Kalimantan and Labuan, says coach Jaffrey Low, who lauds his team’s steady improvement.

Low said the team had shown resilience, particularly in matches where they initially trailed, following a day of intense competition at the Borneo Games Kuching 2025.

“A few of them were actually behind by a few points from the start, but they managed to catch up and take back the score, which is very encouraging.

“I’ve also seen noticeable improvements in some of the athletes, and this is a real boost for them,” he told Sarawak Tribune at the Sarawak Archery Range today.

Looking ahead, the coach acknowledged the stiff competition they will face, with Sarawak represented in all team finals tomorrow (Saturday, September 27).

“All our other teams made it to the finals, and that’s a testament to their hard work. The Indonesian teams are very strong, both in recurve and rebound categories, and the barebow men’s team from Labuan is also formidable,” Low said.

“It’s going to be a tough fight for us, but the chances are there if we stay focused.”

Low also credited the athletes themselves for their performance.

“It’s not just down to the coaches. Every coach has played a part, but ultimately, the athletes pushed themselves,” he added.

“I’m very proud of them, especially those returning to the sport after a break.”
