KUCHING: The ‘Pulau Salak Berselawat’ Programme, now in its 10th series, has grown into a meaningful annual event that not only nurtures love for Prophet Muhammad SAW but also strengthens community unity and identity.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said the programme carries great significance as it brings people together in an atmosphere of spirituality, harmony and brotherhood.

“Reciting ‘selawat’ is a reflection of our love for Rasulullah SAW. Through it, we gain mercy, blessings and his intercession. This gathering is not only an act of worship but also a platform that unites the community,” she said when officiating the event in Kampung Pulau Salak today.
Nancy also highlighted the uniqueness of the Pulau Salak tradition, where residents maintain the annual ‘selawat’ while making the occasion more special with the ‘berlarak’ boat procession to the village.
“This is a cultural heritage that cannot be found elsewhere, especially in Kuching City. It enhances the beauty and strengthens the identity of our community,” she added.
She further emphasised that programmes like these foster Islamic brotherhood, strengthen unity, and instil moral values, particularly among the younger generation.
In assuring continuous government support, Nancy said religious and community-based events are part of efforts to build a moral and resilient society.
“May Allah bless all our efforts and make this programme a source of mercy and well-being for the community,” she said.
The ‘Pulau Salak Berselawat’ Programme attracted strong participation from villagers, community leaders, and invited guests, marking yet another milestone in preserving faith and tradition in Sarawak.
