KUCHING: Sarawak emerged as the overall champion, amassing a total of 112 points in the VIP Golf Tournament of the Borneo Games Kuching at Sarawak Golf Club (KGS) today.
The tournament featured four categories—individual, longest drive, nearest-to-the-pin at hole 13, and nearest-to-the-pin at hole 17—and received an enthusiastic response from participants, including officials and coaching staff from the various contingents attending the Borneo Games Kuching 2025.
In the individual category, the host state claimed two of the top three positions, while the champion title went to Sabah’s Hillferah Tan, who collected 38 points. The second and third places were secured by Mohd Nadzrul and Mohammad Duri, respectively.
For the nearest-to-the-pin category at hole 13, the host’s Alfian Bawi topped the leaderboard with a score of seven feet four inches, while the nearest-to-the-pin at hole 17 was won by Husini with a distance of six feet three inches.
Hanafiah Jamal contributed points to the team by winning the longest drive at hole 6, recording a remarkable 307 meters.
Meanwhile, Masly Ansilau from Sabah claimed the longest drive at hole 15 with a distance of 322 meters.
The prize-giving ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, accompanied by his Deputy, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.
Abdul Karim then said the event was not merely a casual competition among Borneo representatives but also served as a platform to strengthen camaraderie among participants.
“This is one of the best platforms for friends from across the Borneo islands to foster closer ties, strengthen cooperative networks, and build mutual understanding among leaders, officials, and strategic partners throughout Borneo.
“This golf tournament did not involve athletes but was mainly for the officials of the Borneo Games 2025 contingents, and we are grateful to all participants who took part in the competition,” he said.
