SARATOK: Search and rescue (SAR) teams today recovered the body of a missing individual following a boat capsize in the Krian River here, while three others remain unaccounted for.

The victim, identified as Mohd Asfar Sulaiman, 25, a local, was discovered at 9.37 am under a bridge under construction about 300 feet from the Kaba Ferry Jetty.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak in an earlier statement said the incident occurred at 5.30 pm on Friday when 10 workers from a construction company were returning from work, crossing the river from Sesang Jetty to Pusa Jetty, using a wooden boat.

During the incident, the boat went down midstream.

Six workers managed to survive by clinging onto a barge and were later rescued by another passing boat.

The missing victims have been identified as Gunawan Pawadi, 35; Budianto Yapani, 50; and Karyono, 41, all Indonesians.

SAR operations began at 7.40 am today, with teams combing a 3km stretch of the river from Pusa Jetty both upstream and downstream.
