KUCHING: Three of Sarawak’s finest Silambam exponents, all SUKMA medalists, have been entrusted to carry the state’s challenge at the Silambam World Championships in Qatar, with hopes high for a podium finish.

The trio – Asyraff Aqil Mohamad Zainnurin Azman (SUKMA silver medalist), Hani Qurratu’ain Samsudin (SUKMA silver medalist), and Nur Aleesya Zahierah Sali (SUKMA bronze medalist) – will compete alongside the Malaysian team at the global meet.

The athletes, described by the Sarawak Silambam Association as “warriors”, are seen as strong contenders in their respective combat categories.

In a statement, the Sarawak Silambam Association expressed quiet confidence that the three will deliver solid performances and make both Sarawak and Malaysia proud.

Accompanying the athletes are Head Coach, Master Kavibalan, and Master Darshini Meena, who will serve in a dual capacity as women’s coach and team leader (supervisor).

Sarawak athletes are poised for global test at Silambam World Meet.

The team departed Kuching early this morning at 5:00 am for Kuala Lumpur, before heading on to Qatar, and is scheduled to return on October 8, 2025.

“The Sarawak Silambam Association would like to record its sincere gratitude to the Sarawak Sports Corporation, Majlis Sukan Negeri Sarawak, and the Sarawak Government for their continued support for our team.

“We hope that these competitions will sharpen the skills of our warriors so that they can mount a strong challenge at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor,” the statement read.
