KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has installed an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at the council’s Community Hall.

The installation of the equipment is a joint with IJM Land Berhad through its subsidiary RB Development Sdn Bhd.

The life-saving device, donated as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, is now available at the hall which serves residents daily for sports, cultural programmes, health activities and social events.

MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the AED is a vital addition, but stressed that real impact comes from empowering people to act during emergencies.

“Equipment alone cannot save lives, people do. That is why training is just as important. With the right tool and the right knowledge, we can turn fear into action, and action into saving lives,” he said during the hand-over ceremony.

RB Development (Sarawak) general manager Chai King Sing, who represented IJM Land Berhad, thanked MBKS for supporting the collaboration.

Wee, in turn, thanked the companies for their commitment, noting that the initiative reflected not just sponsorship but genuine concern for community safety and well-being.

Meanwhile, to complement the AED installation, a training session was also held for the council’s staff and IJM Land Berhad employees, focusing on awareness of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and hands-on use of the AED.
