KOTA SAMARAHAN: Embracing technology and innovation is set to bring continuous improvements to Sarawak’s education system, said Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Rubiah Wang.

She said the integration of new technologies and innovative methods would not only enhance teaching and pedagogy but also improve the overall delivery of services to the public.

“Through the adoption of digitalisation and continuous innovation, we will see many new methods and ongoing enhancements within the education system.

“These changes are not limited to the teaching aspect alone but also involve the services provided to the community and the rakyat as a whole,” she told reporters after officiating at the closing ceremony of the Sarawak Education Innovation Convention 2025 at The Summer Shopping Mall here today.

The convention, organised by the State Education Department (JPNS), attracted strong participation from District Education Offices (PPD), schools and educational institutions statewide.

Throughout the event, various innovations were showcased, particularly in the area of digital transformation, reflecting the sector’s commitment to moving towards greater excellence.

Rubiah commended the department’s ongoing efforts to ensure educational institutions in Sarawak continue to grow positively in line with technological developments.

“This is a continuous effort by the Sarawak Education Department. We want to see our education institutions evolve and stay aligned with current technological trends,” she said.

She also highlighted the strong competition among agencies under the Ministry of Education during the convention, noting that many of the innovations presented had the potential to be patented and embedded within Sarawak’s education system.

“Our aspiration is to nurture knowledgeable and excellent individuals in Sarawak in the coming decades,” she said.

Meanwhile, on the convention, JPNS Director, Omar Mahli, said that last year, the convention’s logo was launched in Bintulu and this year, the convention’s theme song was launched.

“For everyone’s information, a total of 37 innovation groups took part in KIPS 2025, 29 PPD and eight groups from various sectors within the JPNS.

“In addition to the participation of JPN Sarawak and the PPD, nine secondary schools and nine primary schools from the Samarahan, Serian and Simunjan districts also took part in the district-level School Innovation Competition,” he said.

The convention, held over three days from October 1 to 3, served as a platform to encourage creativity, innovation and collaboration in driving the state’s education sector forward.
