KUCHING: Sarawak organisations and events dominated the Borneo Inspires Legacy Awards (BILA) 2025, with local universities, associations and businesses recognised for creating lasting impact through business events that champion sustainability, community development and knowledge sharing.
BILA, organised under the LEGACY360 framework by Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), spanned categories in knowledge advancement, sustainability, cross-sector collaboration and journalism.
These awards recognised individuals and organisations whose work has created measurable legacies in communities, industries and the environment.
Among the honourees was Universiti Teknologi MARA Sarawak Branch, which earned the Honorary Champion award for hosting the 1st International Conference on Biotechnology, Smart Farming and Entrepreneurship for Food Security (BioSFE 2023).
Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad was named Honorary Accelerator for the World Congress on Innovation & Technology (WCIT | IDECS 2023), while the Sarawak Tourist Guide Association received the Honorary Changemaker award for the 1st ASEAN Tourist Guides Conference 2024.
The Asia for Animals Sarawak Conference by the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) won the Social Champion title, while Place Borneo Sdn Bhd was recognised as Social Accelerator for the Rabies in Borneo Conference.
Universiti Teknologi MARA Sarawak Branch added another feather with the Social Changemaker award for the International Council on Education Media Conference.
In the environmental category, Borneo Business Connect Sdn Bhd secured the Champion award for the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference & Exhibition 2024, with Argus Media named Accelerator for the Asia Carbon Conference 2023.
Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPM) was recognised as Changemaker for the Congress on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security.
Corporate initiatives were also celebrated.
Brewspark Technologies Group took the CMCI CSR Champion award for its Spogomi Team Building and Retreat 2025, while the Malaysian Young Graduates Association (GRADUAN) received the Accelerator award for its Gawai Cultural Bridge 2025.
Cat City Holidays Sdn Bhd was named CMCI CSR Changemaker for the Jubilant Annual Awards.
The journalism category highlighted media contributions to legacy building.
BorneoTalk’s feature on the Sabal Forest Reserve was awarded Champion, The Borneo Post’s coverage of the CCUS Pathway 2025 won Accelerator, and The Shift Asia’s piece on green leadership was recognised as Changemaker.
In the Sarawak Industry awards, Spiral Eventz Management Sdn Bhd’s Spiral Legacy Projects won Champion in Kuching, with Sago Group Sdn Bhd named Accelerator for its Sago Incubator.
In Miri, Mercure Miri Hotel was recognised as Champion for its sustainable hospitality practices, while Landik was awarded Accelerator for its Batik Borneo Project.
