KUCHING: The 2025 Sarawak International Open DanceSport Championship concluded successfully, attracting top dancers from across Malaysia and overseas.

With international participation, the competition held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on September 20 was marked by a high level of intensity and quality, making it one of the region’s premier DanceSport events.

Kuching-based Alexis DanceSport Studio emerged as the largest contingent with over 50 dancers, and delivered a strong overall performance.

A statement issued by the studio highlighted that their athletes secured 11 championship titles, nine second places, nine third places, and more than 20 Top 5 finishes across children, youth, adult and senior divisions, covering both Latin and Standard categories.

“Among the standouts, Vincent Bong clinched four titles in the men’s solo events and, partnering Voon Sin Yee, went on to secure two additional victories in the youth Standard and Latin categories.

“Vera Bong and Ooi Shee Le also dominated the junior and juvenile solo events with three titles.

“Teams from Chung Hua Primary School No. 2 and No. 5 performed strongly in formation dance, sweeping the champion, runner-up, third and fourth places,” the statement added.

Adding to the studio’s recognition, Alexis and Ker Sing were invited to serve as adjudicators, where their involvement as judges reflected professional acknowledgement within Malaysia’s DanceSport community.

Significantly, Victor Bong, the Principal of Alexis DanceSport Studio and Vice-President of the Sarawak DanceSport Association, played a central role in the organisation of the championship.

His contributions in planning, coordination and resource mobilisation were instrumental to the smooth running of the event, which was widely regarded as a success.

“The championship not only highlighted the progress of DanceSport in Sarawak but also strengthened the state’s presence on the international stage.

“Alexis DanceSport Studio has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing young talent and contributing to the growth of the sport in both Sarawak and Malaysia,” the statement read.
