KOTA SAMARAHAN: The government’s continuous investment in skills training institutions reflects its firm commitment to shaping a competent and resilient workforce for the future, said Stakan Assemblyman, Datuk Hamzah Brahim.
Hamzah commended the Ministry of Human Resources for its consistent efforts in expanding quality technical education nationwide, including in Sarawak.
“When the government allocates millions every year to ensure that training and learning run smoothly, it is not done arbitrarily. It is to produce graduates who are skilled, knowledgeable, and able to stand out in the real world,” he said.
He was speaking when officiating at the closing ceremony of the Silver Jubilee Carnival of the Advanced Technology Training Centre (ADTEC), Kota Samarahan Campus, here on Sunday.
Hamzah described ADTEC as a symbol of progress and transformation for Kota Samarahan, noting that the training centre was once built on land considered remote and underdeveloped.
“People used to call this area far from development, but today it houses one of the most advanced training centres in the country. This shows how far we have come,” he added.
He urged trainees to value the rare opportunity of undergoing government-sponsored training, and to cultivate both intelligence and wisdom in life.
“Being smart does not necessarily make you successful. But being wise, knowing how to use opportunities – that’s what determines your future,” he said, reminding students that real challenges begin after graduation.
Hamzah also encouraged trainees to take pride in their institution, pointing out that the centre’s building is the first landmark visible from the air when arriving in Kuching.
“Before the plane even lands, you can already see ADTEC’s name on the rooftop. It’s literally the gateway to Sarawak,” he said.
Reflecting on his own school days, Hamzah shared that he had once been a mischievous student but learned that discipline and humility were key to personal growth.
“If I could turn back time, there are many things I would do differently. Therefore, take my advice; don’t be complacent. The world outside is tougher than you think,” he told the audience of trainees and trainers.
He also reminded students that behind their journey were parents who continued to pray for their success and well-being.
“While you’re enjoying your time here, remember that your parents are at home praying day and night for you to succeed. That’s the real reason you must make them proud,” he said.
Earlier, Hamzah toured the exhibition booths and mingled with students and staff of ADTEC before officiating at the closing of the Silver Jubilee Carnival, which marked 25 years of the institution’s establishment.
The event was also attended by Datuk Rospiagos Taha from the Ministry of Human Resources, ADTEC JTM Kota Samarahan Campus’ Director ,Ts. Azkar-Albar Abu Bakar, representatives from various government agencies, and members of the local community.
