KABONG: A local man was arrested after allegedly stealing a solar lamp and panel from a swiftlet farm to sell them for drug money.
Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Maggie said the suspect was picked up by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) on Oct 4 following a report lodged by a 25-year-old man.
“During investigations, the suspect admitted to stealing the solar equipment to sell it for money to buy drugs,” he said in a statement.
The theft happened at around 11.30 pm on Oct 3 when the complainant arrived at his swiftlet farm at Pantai Tanjung Kembang and saw a man he knew fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
Checks later found a Master 60W solar lamp and its solar panel, worth about RM300, were missing.
“During the arrest, the suspect led police to a spot beside his house, where he had hidden the stolen items.
“The suspect, who tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, also has four prior criminal records,” he said.
Mathew stated that the case was being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
