MIRI: The Miri hotel community came together in high spirits on Sunday for the 13th Hotelier Badminton Tournament, officiated by the Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Dominic Nyurang Ajang, at V Sports Badminton Court, Lopeng.

Dominic praised the tournament as a celebration of wellness, teamwork, and unity within the city’s hospitality industry, noting that the fast-paced nature of hotel work made such moments of recreation and connection all the more vital.

“Life in the hospitality industry can be demanding,” he said. “That’s why it’s so important to take time like this — to step away from work, recharge, and take care of our wellbeing.”

This year’s edition marked a milestone with ten participating hotels — the highest turnout to date — including Miri Marriott Resort & Spa, Pullman Miri Waterfront, Mercure Hotel, Mciti Suites, Imperial Hotel, Dynasty Hotel, Grand Palace, Meritz Hotel, Mega Hotel, and Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club.

Dominic commended Miri Marriott Resort & Spa for its consistency in hosting the event for 13 consecutive years, calling it “one of the most meaningful traditions for hoteliers in the region.”

He reminded players that the tournament was more than a contest of skill, but a symbol of unity and camaraderie. “On the court, we are not divided by hotels — we are one hospitality family,” he said.

As rackets clashed and cheers filled the court, the day’s real victory was clear — a stronger, healthier, and more connected hotel fraternity in Miri.
