KUCHING: Samarahan FA are regrouping and refining their strategy after suffering a 2–0 loss to Serian, with president Mohamad Azri Johari urging the team to treat the setback as a lesson ahead of their next fixture.
Azri said the defeat was disappointing but also a reminder of the team’s potential and areas for improvement.
“We accepted the defeat with an open heart. I believe our players gave their best, but things just didn’t go our way,” Azri told Sarawak Tribune recently.
He said Samarahan were already anticipating at least a point from the match. However, Serian managed to score twice in quick succession within just two minutes.
“That’s football anything can happen. We will use this as a reminder and return stronger in the reverse fixture against Serian,” he added.
Azri noted that Samarahan created several promising opportunities in both halves but failed to convert them into goals.
He believed that had those chances been taken, his team might have deserved all three points.
“The first half saw a few golden chances that we could not finish. It was the same story in the second half, but when Serian launched a counterattack, they punished us with two quick goals,” he explained.
Despite the loss, Azri remains optimistic, saying the team will use the break before their next match to regroup and strengthen their performance.
Samarahan FA will next face Sarikei at the Sarikei Sports Complex on Oct 18.
