SIBU: The Sarawak government is actively implementing various initiatives to improve the state’s public service in an effort to ensure more efficient service delivery, thus increasing the confidence of local and foreign investors.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, said that the commitment is being implemented through initiatives to strengthen integrity, accountability and transparency in the government’s administrative machinery.

“Improving the public service delivery system is not only for the well-being of the people, but is also important to convince investors that Sarawak has an efficient, transparent and trustworthy administrative system,” he said when officiating the Ombudsman Town Hall Session with Civil Servants (Central Region) at a hotel here today (Oct 20).

According to Dr Juanda, the state government is open to receiving any complaints and feedback from the people through the Sarawak Ombudsman Unit as one way to improve efficiency and improve existing weaknesses.

“Every complaint received will be investigated transparently, but must be accompanied by evidence to ensure that follow-up action can be taken effectively,” he added.

He also acknowledged that the rapid development in Sarawak has presented new challenges to civil servants, especially in terms of workload and the need to adapt to the digital system.

However, he stressed that digital transformation in the civil service is an urgent need to ensure that services to the people and investors can be provided efficiently.

“We do not deny that there are still officers who are slow to adapt to the new system, but that cannot be used as an excuse. Sarawak is now moving towards a modern administration that is competitive at the international level,” he stressed.

He is optimistic that by 2030, Sarawak will have an efficient and transparent civil service system, which will not only facilitate the people’s affairs but also attract foreign investors’ confidence in the state’s capabilities.

“It is hoped that this system we have built will be a catalyst for greater economic growth and investment in Sarawak,” Dr Juanda added.

A total of 200 civil servants from central Sarawak attended the event which was also attended by State Chief Ombudsman, Datuk Seri Abdul Ghafur Shariff.
