MIRI: Pustaka Negeri Sarawak is once again organising the Sarawakiana Festival 2025, a biennial event that celebrates the uniqueness and richness of the diverse cultural heritage of Sarawak’s multi-ethnic communities.

This year, the much-anticipated festival carries the theme “Heritage of Knowledge, Culture and Belief”, highlighting the diversity of traditional wisdom, cultural values, and beliefs that form the foundation of Sarawak’s identity.

The opening ceremony of the festival will be officiated by Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau on Oct 23 at Pullman Hotel, here.

According to Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri, the chosen theme brings together the key elements of Sarawak’s community heritage: the inherited traditional knowledge, the cultural uniqueness of its many ethnic groups, and the beliefs that shape the values and way of life of its people.

“The festival also serves as a platform to strengthen unity, foster cross-cultural understanding, and encourage the transmission of traditional practices to the younger generation.”

A variety of exciting activities are lined up throughout the festival, including cultural performances, traditional food and game demonstrations, traditional competitions, heritage exhibitions, interactive workshops, and ethnic product bazaars.

“The Sarawakiana Festival 2025 is one of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak’s initiatives to connect the community with local knowledge and cultural heritage, while reinforcing the library’s role as a dynamic and inclusive community hub.”

The festival will take place over three days, from Oct 23 to 25, between 9am and 10pm at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri.

Among the featured activities are the Forum Sarawakiana, Ceramah Sarawakiana, Traditional Cooking and Bermukun Competitions, Teater Pentas Seni, Reruai Pameran Sarawakiana, Reruai Masakan Tradisional, Reruai Cerita Rakyat, Reruai Sukan Rakyat, and more.

A special highlight this year is the participation of a delegation from Brunei Darussalam, which will present a theatre performance symbolising regional cultural cooperation.

“This collaboration strengthens bilateral relations in arts and culture while creating opportunities for knowledge exchange among Bornean communities.”

Admission is free, and everyone is invited to celebrate and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of the state.
