KOTA SAMARAHAN: A local man believed to be behind a cable theft was caught red-handed by members of the public — only for police to later discover he was also carrying drugs.

The incident happened yesterday (Oct 20) when a mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) team received a tip-off that members of the public had apprehended a suspicious man at Menara Sacofa, Sungai Jernang, here.

Responding swiftly, the MPV team rushed to the scene, re-arrested the suspect, and inspected the vehicle he was using.

Kota Samarahan district police headquarters (IPD) said their search led to the finding of six telecommunication grounding bars believed to have been stolen from the Sacofa tower.

Police then instructed the suspect to surrender any illegal items in his possession. He complied and handed over a plastic packet containing suspected syabu and another packet containing nine Eremin 5 pills.

The drugs, weighing a total of 5.35g, were seized as evidence.

Both the suspect and the seized items were taken to Kota Samarahan district police headquarters for further investigation under the Penal Code and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
