KUCHING: The Dyslexia Walkathon 2025, themed “Walk With A Child,” drew an overwhelming response from the community with more than 550 participants coming together at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), here yesterday (Oct 19).

The event, organised by the Dyslexia Association of Sarawak in collaboration with the Dyslexia Awareness Foundation, aimed to raise awareness and support for children with dyslexia while promoting empathy, inclusion and understanding.

Officiated by Kuching South Deputy Mayor Datuk Zaiedi Suhaili and Dyslexia Association of Sarawak Patron Datin Azerina Mohd Arip, the walkathon saw families, educators, students and corporate participants walking hand-in-hand with children to symbolise encouragement and shared understanding.

Dyslexia Awareness Foundation Head of Fundraising Mok Venia said the event is more than a walk.

“It’s a step forward in understanding, empathy and inclusion for children with dyslexia,” she said.

Proceeds from the event will go towards specialised reading programmes, teacher training, and diagnostic services for underserved communities across Sarawak.

The Dyslexia Association of Sarawak also extended its appreciation to Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah for her continued advocacy and support towards inclusive education initiatives.

Together, the organisers and participants took a meaningful step towards a more inclusive and supportive future for children with dyslexia.
