SARATOK: A mother’s tough decision to turn in her allegedly drug-addicted son led to his arrest — one of three men picked up by police in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ this week.
Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Maggie said the woman had walked into the police station on Monday (Oct 20), informing officers that her son was believed to be hooked on drugs and asking them to take action before things spiralled further.

“Acting on the report, a Task Force led by SI Englebert went to Kampung Melango and arrested the 25-year-old suspect.
“He later tested positive for syabu and had a prior record for online gambling,” he said in a statement today.
The following day, police detained two other men in separate, unrelated arrests around Roban.
At around 5 pm, a team from the Task Force and Crime Prevention Patrol Unit stopped a 42-year-old man for inspections as he was acting suspiciously along Jalan Roban Lama.
He tested positive for syabu and had five prior criminal records — three related to narcotics and two under criminal investigations.
“For the third arrest, officers who acted on a public tip-off, arrested a 39-year-old man near Rumah Krangas Baru, Roban.
“He also tested positive for syabu and was found to have two prior narcotics-related records,” he said.
Mathew pointed out that all three suspects are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug abuse.
If convicted, they may face fines up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, along with two years police supervision.
