SARIKEI: Police are currently probing a viral social media post showing two men being apprehended by villagers on Wednesday.
Sarikei Police Chief, DSP Aswandy Anis, said the incident came to police attention after photos and videos of the citizen arrest began circulating on Facebook at around 11:00 pm.
“Both individuals have since been taken into custody and referred to Sarikei Hospital for medical treatment due to injuries sustained.
“We are still investigating the motive and circumstances behind the incident,” he said.
Aswandy also reminded the public not to speculate or share unverified information that could interfere with ongoing investigation.
He stated that sharing false information is an offence under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
If convicted, it carries a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment of up to one year, or both.
