PADAWAN: The Sarawak Education Department (JPN) has confirmed that a bullying case involving a female student took place at a secondary school here.

The perpetrators allegedly threatening to stab her more than 300 times.

JPN director Omar Mahli said firm action will be taken against the students involved.

“The department has instructed the school to follow the established guidelines for handling bullying and disciplinary misconduct in all schools across the state.

“In addition, the department together with the district education office will visit the school after receiving full information to ensure appropriate action is taken,” he said when contacted.

Omar also warned that stern and immediate measures would be taken if the school is found to have attempted to conceal the incident.

The case first came to light after Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau chief Milton Foo received a report from the victim’s family.

According to Foo, the victim was bullied by two 13-year-old male classmates, who not only hurled stones at her but also taunted her with sexually suggestive remarks and stabbing threats — allegedly up to 300 times, similar to the recent case in Peninsula.

“The girl’s father has lodged a police report, and the school has taken disciplinary action by suspending both male students for three days.

“The incident happened inside the classroom, where the victim was humiliated and threatened both physically and verbally. The victim later reported the matter to a teacher after suffering emotional distress,” he said.

Foo said the victim’s parents noticed their daughter trembling and visibly shaken upon returning home that day.

A meeting was subsequently held between the school, the parents of all students involved, and a police officer.

Following that, one of the bullies was transferred to another class, while the victim has been given extended school leave to undergo psychological counselling.

Meanwhile, Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi confirmed that police have received a report regarding the incident.

“The case is being investigated under Section 507C of the Penal Code,” he said.

Section 507C, introduced through the Penal Code (Amendment) Act 2025 and enforced on July 11 this year, specifically addresses bullying offences, including cyberbullying.

Upon conviction, the offence provides for up to one year imprisonment, a fine, or both.
