SARATOK: A 41-year-old woman was arrested for suspected drug abuse at Kampung Melango Baru here on Thursday.
The woman was nabbed during Ops Tapis Khas carried out by the personnel from the Saratok District Police Headquarters.
Saratok District Police Chief, DSP Mathew Manggie, said that acting on public information and during a patrol at Kampung Melango Baru, police arrested the suspect, who is from Lundu.
“She tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine during a urine test,” he said in a statement.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
On the same day, police also carried out an integrated crime prevention operation from 8:00 pm to 11:59 pm.
Mathew said the operation aimed to reduce criminal cases in hotspot areas, prevent drug and criminal offences, enhance police visibility, and curb traffic violations, especially among motorcyclists.
“During the operation, police inspected 60 individuals – 50 men and 10 women – and checked 49 vehicles, including motorcycles, cars, vans, 4x4s, and others.
Police also issued seven summonses for various traffic offences – one for expired road tax, two for driving without a licence, and four for not wearing helmets.
“In addition, police also seized two motorcycles under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for offences involving riding without a valid licence and vehicle modification,” he said.
