KUCHING: The National Athletes Welfare Foundation (YAKEB) will establish YAKEB Prihatin in every division across Sarawak to serve as local liaisons for its members.
Its chairman, Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, said the initiative aims to make communication easier for members, especially given the vastness of Sarawak.
“This is because Sarawak is very large. I was informed that Watson Nyambek had to drive for 12 hours from Miri just to attend this event.
“So, we hope to establish YAKEB representatives in each division, known as YAKEB Prihatin Sarawak, who can act as liaisons for YAKEB members in their areas.
“That will be implemented. Now is the time to appoint YAKEB representatives in the states, and subsequently, we will move towards the divisions in Sarawak and Sabah,” he said when speaking at a programme here today (Oct 25).
Ahmad Shapawi added that appointing YAKEB Prihatin representatives at both state and divisional levels will ensure that members’ concerns are heard and addressed effectively.
He said the foundation has also improved several assistance schemes following discussions with state representatives.
“Alhamdulillah, several schemes have already been enhanced so that the aid provided is not merely symbolic but genuinely impacts the lives of athletes.
“Sarawak has the fewest applications, so I feel that connections need to be strengthened because many of the schemes assisted have allocated funds for us to help relevant members,” he said.
