MIRI: Riam Road Secondary School (RRSS) has gone viral after its student prefect board released a student-produced anti-bullying awareness video, marking a significant youth-driven push to improve school safety.

The five-minute video, posted on Friday, has already drawn nearly 11,000 views and wide praise for showing practical ways students can recognise, prevent and respond to bullying.

The initiative was conceived, scripted and filmed by the prefect team itself.

Principal Kong Pei Chuen said the project reflects a shift in how students are confronting safety concerns on campus.

“While many discussions focus on CCTV and metal detectors, our students are taking responsibility from within,” she said.

“They are showing that young people can be the drivers of a respectful, caring school culture.”

Scenes in the video depict everyday situations, from verbal mockery to intimidation, and highlight the importance of seeking help immediately, such as moving into crowded areas if one feels unsafe.

Although performed in Mandarin, the message is made clear through captions and visual cues.

Kong said the prefects not only proposed the idea but completed the filming with teachers providing guidance on technical aspects.

“This is students choosing to act, rather than waiting for others to step in. That is maturity and social awareness,” she said.

RRSS now hopes the video can serve as a model for schools nationwide looking to encourage empathy, prevention, and positive peer influence in tackling bullying.
