SARATOK: A police task force under ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ uncovered a hidden drug den deep in a forest along Jalan Roban Lama, arresting three men who later tested positive for drugs.

The raid was carried out on Monday (Oct 27) after police received intelligence about a jungle hut believed to be used as a base for drug abuse and distribution.

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said a team together with a mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) unit moved into the forested area and caught the trio red-handed.

“The makeshift hut, which served as their drug den, was also demolished during the operation.

“The suspects, aged between 18 and 22, were taken to the police station for urine screening, which returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.”

Background checks found that two of them had prior narcotics records, while the third suspect was a first-time offender.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug abuse.

Upon conviction, the offence carries a fine up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, or both, and placed under two years of supervision under Section 38B of the same Act.
