KUCHING: Kuching City FC advanced to the semi-finals of the 2025 Malaysia FA Cup after progressing with a 5-3 aggregate win over Terengganu FC last night (Oct 28).
Despite a 2-1 defeat in the return leg at Sarawak State Stadium, Petra Jaya on Tuesday (Oct 28), Aidil Sharin Sahak’s men held firm to book their place among the final four and will face Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) at home on Nov 8.
Terengganu started strongly, with captain Raianderson Da Costa Morais breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute from a corner.
Kuching City responded through Ronald Ngah Wanja, who calmly converted a 32nd-minute penalty after being brought down in the box, confirmed after a brief VAR review.
The home side thought they had gone ahead in the 50th minute through Ramadhan Saifullah, but VAR disallowed the goal for a foul committed earlier.
Kuching’s Haziq Nadzli then produced two vital saves in the 63rd minute to deny Da Costa Morais, while Terengganu’s freekick in the 65th minute was also well handled by the City goalie.
Ronald missed a golden chance to score in the 72nd minute when his header from Jimmy Raymond’s cross went just wide.
Da Costa Morais netted again deep into stoppage time (90+7’) to seal a 2-1 win for Terengganu on the night, but it wasn’t enough to overturn Kuching City’s first-leg advantage.
Terengganu nearly found a third in the dying seconds, only for the effort to be ruled offside, before Haziq Nadzli made a last-minute save to preserve the aggregate win — confirming Kuching City’s place in the semi-finals against JDT.
