Two men killed as car collides with tanker

KANOWIT: Two local men lost their lives on the spot when their car collided with an oil tanker along Jalan Majau near SK Ulu Majau this afternoon.

The victims, identified as Musa Minggat, 50, and Budin Minggat, 69, were travelling in a Perodua Axia when the accident occurred at around 12:30 pm.

Due to the impact, it trapped both men inside the vehicle, while the tanker driver escaped without injuries.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Kanowit station was dispatched to the scene, about 10 kilometres away, after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, the team confirmed the accident and used rescue tools to extricate both victims from the wreckage.

The victims, believed to be brothers, were later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, and their bodies were handed over to the police for further action.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the operation ended at 1:20 pm.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
