LUBOK ANTU: Police arrested a local man in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old boy on Tuesday.
The suspect, in his late 50s and believed to have deviant sexual tendencies, was picked up by a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) led by Insp Muhammad Firdaus Saldi at around 9.30 pm in Sri Aman.
A smartphone belonging to the suspect was also seized, believed to contain crucial evidence linked to the case.
He is being remanded for four days at Lubok Antu police lock-up to facilitate investigations.
The case is being probed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.
Police have reminded members of the public — especially parents and guardians — to be on alert to any sudden or unusual changes in their children’s behaviour as early attention can help protect them from sexual predators.
