KUCHING: Police have classified the case of a woman found dead inside a parked car at a shopping mall here last Wednesday as sudden death.

Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said initial investigations found no elements of foul play at the scene.

He said police received a report at 1.55 pm from a member of the public who found the woman unconscious inside a locked vehicle.

“A police team rushed to the scene and discovered a woman lying motionless in the driver’s seat.

“Assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department (Tabuan Jaya station) was sought to unlock the vehicle, which was locked from the inside,” he said in a statement.

The woman was later confirmed dead by a medical assistant from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Alexson said the deceased, identified as Marianna Liew Ai Jia, 24, had earlier been reported missing in Tabuan Jaya area.

Her body has been taken to SGH’s Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

“We urge the public not to speculate on the incident to respect the family’s sensitivities,” he added.

In a previous statement, Alexson said Liew, who works as a sales assistant, was last seen driving a Nissan Grand Livina after leaving her home at 3.30 pm on Saturday (Oct 25).
