MIRI: Samling Group contributed RM40,000 for a basketball court at SJK(C) Chiaw Nan’s new campus in Miri, reinforcing its ongoing support for local education and youth development.
The contribution was presented by Samling Group chief operating officer Yap Fui Fook to school representative Hii Lim Ing.
Yap said that the funds will go towards the main construction of the basketball court, part of the school’s plan to upgrade its Physical and Health Education (PHE) facilities
Meanwhile, the school’s Board of Management member Ling Kie King said the project will give students a safer and more inclusive space for physical activities.
“Samling’s steadfast support represents a significant dedication to the health and overall well-being of our students and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Quality Education.
“This investment guarantees that our students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, will have access to a secure and inclusive environment for sports and physical education,” he said.
For the record, the school relocated to its new site at Lot 7958, Block 5, Lambir Land District in July 2024 and has been improving its facilities to meet the needs of its growing student population.
While the RM40,000 covers the main construction, the school continues to seek further support for additional safety features, including the installation of basketball poles and a non-slip surface coating.
These upgrades, the school said, aim to enrich students’ learning experience, encourage active lifestyles, and foster community spirit within the new campus.
