KUCHING: The Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) welcomed Batik Air’s latest route linking Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, which is set to commence operations on December 15 this year.

The daily Kota Kinabalu-Kuching-Kota Kinabalu (BKI-KCH-BKI) service will enhance convenience and strengthen air connectivity between the capitals of Sabah and Sarawak.

Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, commended Batik Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, and the Batik Air team for their continued commitment towards improving flight access to and within Sarawak.

“The Ministry of Transport Sarawak fully supports Batik Air’s initiative to enhance air connectivity within Borneo and with Peninsular Malaysia.

“This new route will not only strengthen business and tourism ties but also offer greater convenience for travellers between major cities in East Malaysia,” said Lee.

He added that the improved link between Kuching and Kota Kinabalu complements the state government’s efforts to boost economic growth, tourism, and regional integration under Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

MOTS continues to collaborate with airlines, airport operators, and tourism agencies to facilitate more direct routes and increase flight frequencies to Sarawak, ensuring the state remains well-connected regionally and internationally.
