KUCHING: The Sarawak Government is developing the Sarawak Early Childhood Development Policy to create a comprehensive framework for nurturing children in the state, said Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus.
Speaking at the closing of Sarawak Children’s Day 2025 celebration at Plaza Merdeka today, she said that the policy is being formulated with input from educators, parents, psychologists and community representatives to ensure it reflects Sarawak’s unique needs and identity.
“This policy will not just be a document, but a social movement uniting all parties to build a brighter future for Sarawak’s children,” she said.
Rosey said the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to making early childhood development a long-term social investment.
She emphasised the importance of collaboration between families, communities and government agencies in creating a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive.
Highlighting the broader significance of the policy, she linked it to Sarawak’s developmental goals, noting that empowering children is crucial to achieving high-income status by 2030.
“Strengthening children’s well-being today determines the strength and resilience of Sarawak tomorrow,” she said.
The celebration at Plaza Merdeka, which attracted strong public participation, also featured health screenings and exhibitions, counselling services, dental check-ups, healthy nutrition awareness exhibitions, art activities, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) exhibitions, family games as well as an outdoor playground.
Rosey expressed her gratitude to the organisers, volunteers and community partners for ensuring the smooth execution of the two-day event.
She concluded by urging all stakeholders, parents, communities, government agencies and the private sector, to actively contribute to raising, educating and protecting Sarawak’s children, reinforcing that early childhood development is a shared responsibility that shapes the state’s future.
