KUCHING: Team Sarawak delivered a strong showing at the National Interstate U12 and U16 Badminton Championships 2025.
The team achieved their best result with a fourth-place finish in the Boys’ U12 category and top five spots for both U16 teams.
The championships, held at Stadium Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur from October 29 to November 2, saw Sarawak competing against the nation’s top junior squads.
Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) said this year’s results mark a notable improvement compared to last year, when Sarawak teams were eliminated at the group stages.
The U12 Boys led the charge with a spirited campaign with a strong fourth place finish.
Both the U16 Boys and U16 Girls teams placed fifth overall, showcasing Sarawak’s growing depth and competitiveness in the junior ranks.
Although the U12 Girls team finished 13th, SBA views their participation as an important step in developing long-term player experience and confidence.
SBA’s President, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, congratulated the team, saying the progress reflects Sarawak’s commitment to nurturing young badminton talent.
SBA’s Honorary Secretary, Datuk Dr Wan Khalik Wan Muhammad, echoed the sentiment, saying the encouraging performance shows that Sarawak badminton is “moving in the right direction” under its centralised and grassroots training programmes.
SBA in the same statement extended its appreciation to all the coaches, team officials, parents, and sponsors whose support made the campaign possible.
“The association remains committed to building future champions under its vision,” the statement added.
