KUCHING: Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) has introduced advanced, world-class cancer treatment and diagnostic technologies to Borneo.
It is the first private hospital to offer the Halcyon Radiotherapy System and the Gallium-68 Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) PET/CT Scan Service.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the RM20 million investment by BMC reflects Sarawak’s continued commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and quality.
He commended the homegrown medical group’s initiative, noting that the two technologies would reduce the need for patients to travel to Kuala Lumpur or overseas for specialised treatment.
“The Halcyon Radiotherapy System is among the most advanced radiotherapy technologies available today.
“It allows faster, more precise, and comfortable cancer treatment, minimising radiation exposure to healthy tissues while maximising its effectiveness against cancer cells.
“This means patients can complete their treatments more quickly and with less discomfort.
“Complementing this, the introduction of the Gallium-68 PSMA PET/CT Scan Service enables highly accurate imaging, particularly for the early detection of prostate cancer, which will lead to improved patient outcomes and survival rates,” he said.
Abang Johari said this in a speech delivered by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian during the launching ceremony of ‘The First in Borneo: Advanced Halcyon Radiotherapy and New Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA)’ at BMC today.

He noted that integrating technology and innovation in healthcare not only enhances medical outcomes but also strengthens Sarawak’s position as a regional hub for healthcare excellence.
With the addition of cutting-edge equipment such as the Halcyon Radiotherapy System and PSMA PET/CT scan, he said, Sarawak’s healthcare capabilities would continue to inspire confidence among both domestic and international patients seeking quality, affordable, and compassionate care.
“Sarawak is well-positioned to become a premier destination for medical tourism in the region.
“Our unique combination of modern medical facilities, skilled healthcare professionals, and the natural charm of Sarawak offers a holistic healing environment for patients from across Borneo and neighbouring countries,” he added.
