Indonesian dies in crash while crossing highway

SARATOK: A plantation worker from Indonesia was killed after being struck by a pick-up truck while crossing the road along KM418.1 of the Pan Borneo Highway near the Saratok junction this morning.

The accident happened at 11.27am and involved a Toyota Hilux vehicle and the victim who was crossing the road.

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said investigations found that the Hilux was travelling towards Kuching before hitting the victim.

“The impact threw the victim, identified as Kornelius Kenedi, 46, several metres away. He suffered severe head and body injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics,” he said.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Hilux driver from Sibu, who works as a salesman, escaped unharmed.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
