KUCHING: The Malaysia Rugby Technical and Education Seminar 2025 officially kicked off today at the Riverside Majestic Hotel, marking a major milestone for rugby development in Sarawak and the region.

Held in conjunction with the Asia Rugby Annual General Meeting (AGM) and hosted in Sarawak for the first time, the four-day event brings together rugby leaders, educators and technical experts from across Asia.

The collaboration reflects a strong partnership between the Malaysia Rugby Union, Sarawak Rugby Union (SRU), and World Rugby, with the full support of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP), Business Events Sarawak, and the Sarawak Tourism Board, under the Tribe Legacy Sarawak Campaign.

In a Facebook post, SRU described the initiative as an important step toward strengthening rugby education, technical expertise, and collaboration across Asia, while positioning Sarawak as a growing hub for international sports and knowledge exchange.

The seminar runs until Sunday, featuring World Rugby courses in Level 1 15s Coaching, Level 1 7s, Match Officiating, and First Aid in Rugby (FAIR).

Around 70 participants, mostly from Sarawak, are taking part in the training, alongside about 60 Asia Rugby delegates attending the AGM and related sessions.
