KUCHING: Thirteen participants of the second Conservation Internship Programme (CIP) for Forest Management Certification (FMC) yesterday received their certificates from Sarawak Forestry Corporation Sdn Bhd (SFCSB) chief executive officer Zolkipli Mohamad Aton.
The first programme of the CIP was launched by SFCSB under the umbrella of Research for Intensified Management of Bio-Rich Areas of Sarawak (RIMBA) in 2017.
Its objective was to equip conservation experts in the state with the necessary technical knowledge and capabilities.
Their in-depth training in the field of conservation would enable them to facilitate the certification of the Forest Management Units (FMUs) in the state.
The second programme was made possible with the major financial support of Sarawak Timber Association (STA).
The nine-month CIP consisted of classroom and in-situ lectures, hands-on learning, fieldwork and assessment.
Under the RIMBA set-up, the participants were exposed to research work as they collaborated with renowned researchers on site.
To date, most of the graduates are employed by the timber industry players.
Present during the certificate presentation ceremony yesterday held at the Waterfront Hotel were STA treasurer Philip Choo and representatives from Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) as well as officers of SFCSB and STA.
