SARATOK: Police arrested two more local men believed to be involved in the recent oil palm theft case reported in Lubok Renit last Wednesday.

The suspects, aged 26 and 33, were detained separately by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) on Friday.

Saratok Police Chief, DSP Mathew Manggie, said their capture followed information provided by the first suspect who was arrested last Thursday.

“Both newly arrested suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. One of them also has four prior criminal records.

“Also seized from them was a harvesting spear believed to have been used during the theft.

“Investigations found that the suspects sold the stolen oil palm to fund their drug supply,” he said.

Earlier, police had received a report lodged by a 36-year-old auxiliary policeman from a SALCRA plantation.

Around noon, the complainant and his colleagues came across a gold Toyota Hilux laden with oil palm bunches believed to have been stolen from the plantation.

Attempts to stop the vehicle failed as the suspects fled the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
