KOTA SAMARAHAN: Teamwork and unity must remain the cornerstone of Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) to ensure effective and people-oriented public administration.

State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, reminded government officers and staff that every role from Resident to driver, plays a vital part in achieving the state’s development goals.

“No matter what our position is, all of us contribute as one team towards success.

Abu Bakar delivers his speech at the closing of the SCS R&DO Carnival Samarahan 2025 at the State Farmers’ Organisation Sarawak (PPNS), Kota Samarahan.

“The spirit of togetherness and cooperation is what makes the Sarawak Civil Service strong,” he said when officiating at the Sarawak Civil Service Resident & District Office (SCS R&DO) Carnival Samarahan this morning.

Abu Bakar commended the organising committee under the Samarahan Resident Office for successfully hosting the carnival, which gathered civil servants from across Sarawak.

He said that the event served as a meaningful platform to strengthen camaraderie and nurture sportsmanship within the public sector.

“The carnival’s slogan, ‘Semua Menang’ (Everyone Wins), truly reflects Sarawak’s inclusive spirit,” he said, adding that sports promote unity and perseverance.

The State Secretary drew parallels between teamwork in sports and cooperation in the workplace, stressing that effective collaboration between senior and junior officers is key to ensuring efficient policy implementation.

He also encouraged civil service departments to promote sports and wellness programmes among staff, remarking in good humour that officers should not be “poor at sports” but instead cultivate healthy lifestyles and team spirit.

The carnival, attended by Residents, Deputy Residents, District Officers and civil servants from across Sarawak, including Kuching, Serian, Limbang, Kapit, Betong, Miri, Sibu and Bintulu, featured a variety of sports competitions and team-building activities.

Abu Bakar concluded by congratulating all participants and urging them to maintain close relations while upholding the government’s trust with integrity and dedication.

“Continue to foster good relationships among one another and ensure that the responsibilities entrusted to us are carried out with excellence.

“Well done to everyone and God-willing, we will meet again at the next R&DO Carnival 2027 in Kuching,” he said.
