KUCHING: Lionel Messi has finally returned to Barca – not to play, but to remember.
The Argentine and Barcelona legend made an emotional visit to the renovated Camp Nou in Barcelona on Monday – the stadium that defined his career and the place he still calls home in spirit.
“Last night I returned to a place I deeply miss.
“A place where I was immensely happy, where you made me feel a thousand times like the happiest person in the world,” the 38-year-old wrote on Instagram.
Messi left the Catalan club in 2021 for Paris Saint-Germain following Barcelona’s financial crisis, before joining Inter Miami two years later.
“I hope one day I can return, and not just to say goodbye as a player, as I was never able to do,” added the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and 2022 World Cup champion.
The Argentine maestro continues to shine across the Atlantic, scoring twice last Saturday to send Inter Miami into the next round of the MLS Cup play-offs.
It seems even after all these years, Messi’s story with Barcelona still has one final chapter waiting to be written.
